With the guidance of social studies teacher Melinda Caparco, students collaboratively prepared ten questions that were sent to Dr. Gandhi in preparation for Monday's event. Inspired by his powerful message, seniors will begin their Capstone projects. Through the Capstone project, students will have the opportunity to reflect, set goals and develop an action plan that implements the ideas and messages of both Gandhi men into their own lives.
This event will serve as an introduction for when students will travel to India via technology with Dr. Arun Gandhi, social studies teacher Melinda Caparco and science teacher LatToya Dunbar in January. During this 18 day tour, students will have the opportunity to experience the culture of India first hand, learn about the life of Mahatma Gandhi through the eyes of his grandson who lived with him for 2 years before his assassination, meet the Waterman of India who has won a Nobel Peace Prize for bringing fresh water to thousands, and see the impact of the Gandhi Institute which has turned around villages and schools. Additionally, this event will introduce students to the world of virtual travel and learning. Travelling with Dr. Gandhi, Melinda Caparco and LaToya Dunbar, students will have the opportunity to interact and ask questions, using technology with members of various communities that are "being the change we want to see in the world."
